The X-Files Collectible Card Game
The X-Files Collectible Card Game (CCG) is a game that was first released in 1996 by USPC Games.
When playing the game, each player selects a single card from the "X-File" suit that they keep secret from their opponent. The aim of the game is to deduce which "X-File" card your opponent has selected by asking questions in a similar way to the game Cluedo (a.k.a. Clue).
There are various game mechanics involved that you can use to gain the opportunity to ask a question, as well as to hinder your opponents ability to ask a question.
Commercial Releases
There are three editions of the X-Files Collectible Card Game that were commercially released; "Premiere", "The Truth Is Out There" and "101361".
Both the "Premiere" and "The Truth Is Out There" are core editions that are made up of 354 cards.
"101361" was an expansion set that is made up of 125 cards.
There are also 24 Promo cards that were given away in various ways, such as being included in magazines or being handed out at conventions.
Demonstration Cards
In addition to the commercially released cards, a demonstration only deck was produced to promote the game at Gen Con '96, known as the "Gen Con Deck"".
The Gen Con Deck consists of 60 cards that comprise a playable deck. Only a few hundred copies of this deck were produced. They were meant to be destroyed after the conference, but some survived.
The back of each card included the phrase "For Demonstration Purposes Only".
