TSR's great game convention Gen Con (the
largest in North America) was again a very suc-
cessful show. Many CCG manufacturer's pre-
viewed their new games or expansions and made
announcements of new licenses and products to
come. Eager gamers hauled off tons of products
from the dealer's room and played games day and
night. Among the highlights of the show was the
appearance of two of X-Files' The Lone Gunmen
(complete with special X-Files promo card) and
Walter Koenig (Checkov) from the original Star
Trek series.

One to watch is definitely the Magic: The
Gathering video game (not to be confused with
the CD-ROM game from Microprose) due out
from Acclaim Entertainment. It looks really cool!

Freebies were more plentiful this year with
AOL handing out disks and Five Rings Publishing
offering free L5R Starter Decks. From the tossed
rewards of Westwood Studios and FPG to the
strolling singers in the castle, Gen Con was a
grand success, yet another year.

Many of the CCG manufacturers hosted
Tournaments at Gen Con including Fleer (for Star
Trek the Original Series) and ICE for Middle-earth.
