Guardian Angel
Combo
by Andy Graumann
It's time to break out and dust off a
couple of cards which haven't made it
into decks as often as others do. Though
there are many different applications for
similar combinations, this particular
combination is designed for a deck with
Fox Mulder as one of your 20 RP worth
of starting Agents. The two cards in this
featured combination are the Event card "Safe
House" and the Witness card "Bill Mulder."
The Safe House card adds the Keywords
Event and Resource to a Witness card. The Bill
Mulder card adds 2 to a Subterfuge Skill Check
and can also be used to negate any card that
would send Fox Mulder to the Hospital. The
benefits should begin to become apparent. Play
your Bill Mulder Witness card to get a +2 modi-
fier to one Subterfuge Skill Check. Then, play
the Safe House Event to make Mr. Mulder hang
around indefinitely. Now, your Agents receive
two benefits: a +2 modifier to a Subterfuge Skill
Check once per turn, every turn, and protection
for Fox Mulder.

Let's take a closer look at this protection for
Fox Mulder. The Bill Mulder card can be
removed from the game to
negate one card that will send
Fox Mulder to the Hospital.
Thus, this card can be used to
negate an Adversary, the most
common card that will send Fox
to the Hospital. Since your deck
will likely be centered around
Fox Mulder, your opponent will
have to waste valuable CP to
play an Adversary you will negate with Bill
Mulder; or stick to eliminating lesser Agents in
Combat. Thus, Bill Mulder
has become Fox's guardian
angel, as he will remain in
play until discarded, due to
your Safe House. Either way,
you have significantly altered
a portion of your opponent's
strategy, a key to securing vic-
tory against your opponent. A

anyone can learn to build a
strong deck, forcing your
opponent to play their deck
in a different way than intended, is a key to vic-

RP does just that.
Now that you've played this combination,
work on keeping it protected. This combina-
tion now contains the Keywords "Event,
Witness, Negate, Subterfuge, Resource." There
are two cards that will negate it outright. They
are the Bluff "You've Got a Tail" (Negates one
Event Resource) and the Bluff "Pete Calcagni"
(Negates one Witness Resource). Since the
Keyword "Resource" has been added, a card
that will simply negate a Witness or Event will
no longer suffice. Thus, once this combination
is out, keep the Event card "Langly" handy (he
negates one Bluff card), and for 2 RP, you can
negate any card that would force you to discard
this combination. With two Safe Houses
and two Bill Mulders in your deck, after
getting this combination out initially, you
should be able to keep it on the table for
most of the game. Imagine the benefit if
your opponent has built his deck around
Adversaries. It will be a quick game.

Try altering this combination with
other Witnesses to best suit your deck. For
example, use it with "Max Fenig" for a
recurring +2 modifier in Alien Investigation
and protection against Agent abductions or
any other +2 Witness for modifiers galore.
Use the Fox Mulder's Guardian Angel
combo in your deck and watch your opponent
scramble for protection.
