own collection. This method works well for collectors
and sports fans.
The second method is the collective draw method.
All of the managers interested in running a team
would agree on a number of packs/decks to be collec-
tively bought, opened, and placed in the drafting
pool. Managers then draft their players from those
available. This method can be exciting, since you never
know which players will be available. This method is
also good for beginners and those players who don't
have the resources necessary to insure that they can
field every player.
2. The Draft. Each manager begins the season with
$30 million to buy his team. To begin, randomly decide
which manager will pick first. This manager then
nominates a player.
Common/very common
players have a $100,000
minimum bid, uncom-
mon players have a
$500,000 minimum
bid, and rare players
have a $1 million min-
imum bid. Beginning
with the nominating
manager, each manager
bids on each player. Bids
can go around until only
one manager is left in
the bidding. The only
other limitations are
that each manager
must draft a team of
24 players (including designated hitters if
your conference is using them and at least five starting
pitchers) and that all of the field positions must be cov-
ered. Therefore, it is possible that the manager who
offers a given player up for bid may not end up with that
player on his team because he has been outbid by an
opposing manager.

The serpentine draft is an optional method that works
well for beginners or those players who are using the col-
lective draw method of selection. Managers randomly estab-
lish an order and pick their players
in that order. Once the last man-
ager has chosen his player, the
order reverses and the last man-
ager picks first, and so on. The
order keeps reversing until all of
the managers have drafted their
24 players. An advantage of this
method is that a manager doesn't
have to keep track of his
expenses since no bidding or
purchasing is involved.

3. Number of Teams. Each league
will consist of two conferences.
Within each conference, teams
will be divided into four divi-
sions. If the number of teams is
not divisible by four, then the

extra teams will be allocated as evenly as possible among
the divisions and conferences. If more than 32 teams exist,
then two separate leagues must be run.
4. The Season. Each manager will play a number of games
that are dependent on the number of teams in the league.
These games are determined randomly from the teams avail-
able in the league/conference/division. Each team in a man-
ager's division must be played at least six times (three at
home, three as visitors), and every other team in the league
must be played twice (once at home, once as visitors).

5. The Playoffs. After the regular season the two teams in
each division with the best
record enter the playoffs,
which are single elimination.
Next, the winners in each divi-
sion play off to determine a
conference champion (note
that multiples of two are the
best way to run a playoff, i.e.,
2, 4, 8, 16). If there are two
conferences, then the
two conference cham-
pions will play in a
best-of-seven-game
World Series. If there
is only one conference,
then the two best
teams in the confer-
ence play in the World
Series. The winner of the
World Series is the ultimate league champion. If two
teams in a conference are tied, then they must play a
playoff game to see who advances to the World Series.
(Unless, of course, the two teams that are tied are also
the two best teams in a single conference league. In that
case, they both advance.)
