Scrye 18 - 4 - X-Files CCG: Mention

first strike

Welcome to SCRYE 18...

We are particularly proud of the issue
you now hold in your hands. If you love
Collectible Card Games, this issue has
something in it for you. We've redesigned,
added and made some changes... I'll look
forward to reading your letters about the
new improved SCRYE.

Mirage Prices. You'll note a wide range
of prices for this new M:TG expansion.
Although we received a very solid amount
of pricing from stores, many of the top
cards at each store differed, and this is
reflected in the disparate highs and lows for
some cards. We have also included Mirage
card text at the end of the SCRYE M:TG
player's guide.

Early this summer, we published a test
issue of mastyr magazine, aimed at the ded-
icated CCG player and we received many
compliments on it. From our research, we
have determined that the field is not quite
ready for a separate magazine so we've taken
the best sections from mastyr and incorpo-
rated them into SCRYE for the present.

We are extremely happy to have
Mike Fitzgerald and George Baxter, two
superb writers and very highly-regarded
CCG gamers, join SCRYE as contributing
editors, beginning with this issue.

Mike Fitzgerald reviews DC OverPower
and Proteus in this issue. He is a top player
and the designer of Wyvern and many other
card games. Mike has a definite flair for
reviewing CCGs and we think you'll like his
style and content!

George Baxter is one of the top M:TG
players in the world (2nd in U.S. Nationals),
has written more about M:TG and CCGs
than anyone, and he's now going to share his
knowledge with our readers.

New in this issue is the WINNER'S CIRCLE -
Tournament Winning Decks from stores and
gaming groups around the country and,
when possible, a photo of the winner.

PRO-TALK - offers strategy for building
decks and winning tournaments plus get-
ting the edge on your opponent. In this
issue we have combos, tips and strategies
written by top players and designers for
Star Wars, L5R, Middle-earth, Mythos,
Star Trek: The Card Game, Rage, Star Trek:
Q-Continuum, OverPower, DC OverPower,
X-Files, Spellfire, Guardians and Wyvern.

CYBERGAMER & BOOKCASE - Two new
review sections for non-CCGs and books. In
this issue we review Mario 64, Daggerfall, A
Game of Thrones, and the latest two Miles
Vorkasigan novels. Beware of bad interfaces
and it's time to rescue another Princess...

There's much more to discover and I hope
that you will write to me and let me know
what you think of the new mastyr section
(or you could just send a note with the
Readership Awards Ballot - see pg. 119).
I'm attempting to read each and every one as
they come in and some of your top picks are
really interesting! I especially enjoy the
Best/Worst category.

Finally, have a great Thanksgiving and
Holiday Season. A special get-well wish to
Darwin Bromley, one of the pioneers of
this industry. We hope he recovers in time
to play with his trains for the Holidays.
